Multani Mitti Face Pack: 5 Simple DIY Recipes for Glowing Skin

Multani Mitti, also called Fuller's Earth, is a natural clay that has been used in Indian beauty routines for generations. It is known for absorbing excess oil and leaving the skin feeling fresh and clean. Here are five simple recipes you can make at home.

Before you begin

  • Do a patch test on your inner arm and wait a few hours before using it on your face.
  • Use a clean bowl and spoon (avoid metal bowls if possible).
  • Apply to clean skin and avoid the eye area and lips.

1. Classic Multani Mitti and rose water

Mix 2 tablespoons of Multani Mitti with enough rose water to form a smooth paste. Apply evenly and leave for 10 to 15 minutes.

2. Multani Mitti and curd

Mix 1 tablespoon of Multani Mitti with 1 tablespoon of fresh curd. The curd makes the pack gentler and easier to spread.

3. Multani Mitti and aloe vera gel

Combine 1 tablespoon of Multani Mitti with 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel. A good option if your skin feels dry after clay packs.

4. Multani Mitti and sandalwood

Mix 1 tablespoon of Multani Mitti with half a teaspoon of sandalwood powder and rose water to make a smooth paste.

5. Multani Mitti hair mask

Mix 3 to 4 tablespoons of Multani Mitti with water or curd, apply to the scalp and hair, leave for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse thoroughly.

How to apply and remove

  1. Wash your face with lukewarm water.
  2. Apply a thin, even layer of the paste.
  3. Rinse off with lukewarm water before the pack dries completely and cracks.
  4. Pat dry and apply a light moisturiser.

How often?

Most people use a clay pack once or twice a week. If your skin feels tight or irritated, reduce the frequency or stop using it.
